CS Implemented Comprehensive Data Storage and Analytics Solution at Moldindconbank

Today, Moldindconbank, one of the largest financial institutions in Moldova, is one of the pillars of the country's banking system and holds a 20% market share. The bank prides itself on its extensive branch network, market-leading payment card services, and effective money transfer solutions.
CHALLENGE
As part of the MICB4YOU transformation program, CS was challenged to implement a comprehensive solution for data storage and analytics at the bank. This included:
- Implementation of the corporate data warehouse CS::BM and the analytical system CS::BI.
- Ensuring seamless integration of the new solution with the CBS B2, which was being implemented simultaneously.
- Adaptation of data marts to the standards of the Republic of Moldova and expanding them with new attributes.
- Integration of the data warehouse with the bank’s external systems.
- Development of analytical reports for more than 15 bank departments.
The particular complexity of the project lay in the simultaneous launch of the CBS B2 system and the implementation of the corporate data warehouse. This required the development of data marts and reports in parallel with the configuration and launch of the core banking system.
SOLUTION
To address the challenges, the CS team developed and implemented a comprehensive solution that covered several key aspects.
The approach was based on the simultaneous implementation of CS::BM and CS::BI along with the launch of CBS B2. This was accomplished through the application of Change Data Capture (CDC) technology based on Oracle Golden Gate, which ensured instant data transfer from CBS B2 to the CS::BM warehouse from the first day of the new system’s operation.
An important element of the project’s success was the Agile approach to development. This allowed for configuring data loading processes and creating data marts immediately after defining accounting parameters in the new subsystems of CBS B2. Such a flexible approach ensured quick adaptation to changes and new requirements during the implementation process.
Special attention was paid to adapting the solution to the bank’s specific needs. In particular, the BUSINESS INDICATORS – MRTS (Managerial Reporting Transformation System) subsystem was implemented for forming the managerial balance sheet and profit and loss statement (PnL), taking into account the unique requirements of Moldindconbank. Additionally, more than 250 analytical reports were developed, considering the specifics of Moldova’s banking sector.
CS specialists also conducted training for Moldindconbank employees to enable them to develop reports independently. At the same time, CS continues to provide ongoing expert support for solving complex tasks.
An integral part of the implemented solution was integration with external systems. Seamless integration of the data warehouse was configured with both CBS B2 and the bank’s external data sources, opening new opportunities for comprehensive analysis and decision-making.
Sergey Rachkov, Head of DWH/BI Department at CS
It’s worth emphasizing the special complexity of the project associated with the simultaneous launch of the CBS B2 system and the implementation of the corporate data warehouse. It is much easier to launch analytical reporting and a warehouse when the source system is already operating stably. We had to develop data marts and reports simultaneously with the system launch. The application of the Agile approach allowed us to configure data loading processes and create data marts immediately after defining accounting parameters and from the moment new subsystems were put into operation in CBS B2.
RESULTS
This comprehensive approach allowed for creating a flexible, adaptive solution that meets the current needs of Moldindconbank and has the potential for further development in accordance with the bank’s future requirements.
The implementation of CS’s comprehensive solution for data storage and analytics at Moldindconbank delivered the following results:
- Enhanced analytical capabilities
- Development of more than 250 reports for various analytical needs of the bank.
- Implementation of the BUSINESS INDICATORS – MRTS subsystem, which allowed for forming the managerial balance sheet and profit and loss statement, taking into account the specific needs of the bank.
- Increased bank autonomy
- 75% of reports were developed by the Moldindconbank team independently after training conducted by CS specialists.
- Providing the ability to independently develop and adapt CS products to the bank’s own needs.
- Business process optimization
- Providing enhanced capabilities for making informed decisions through comprehensive analytics.
- Improving the efficiency of various bank departments through quick access to necessary data and reports.
- Successful adaptation to local requirements:
- Taking into account the unique needs of the bank and the specifics of Moldova’s banking sector in the developed solutions.
CS continues to support Moldindconbank in the next stages of the transformation program, helping to solve current challenges and implement new software products.
Project Manager, MICB
Joint work and focus on studying needs have made it possible to achieve simple and effective solutions that meet business goals. It is worth noting that the CS data storage and analytics system integration team was always ready to provide qualified support and clarification on issues that arose both during and after implementation. Exchange of experience, individual approach, and proposed solutions based on modern practices made it possible to successfully implement the CS::BM data warehouse and CS::BI analytical system simultaneously with the launch of other CS products.
